Featured Destination: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Rio de Janeiro is home to 10 million people, and all of them are dedicated to having the best time of their lives every day. The amazingly beautiful Avenida Atlântica is flanked on one side by white beach and azure sea and on the other by the pleasure-palace hotels that testify to the city's eternal lure. This is a city that has it all, great weather, great people, and great attractions.

Called Ciudad de los Reyes, City of the Kings, by the Spanish conquerors, it was founded by Francisco Pizarro on January 18,1535 in the Rímac Valley. The settlement was one of a succession established in this same strategic location over the centuries. The most recent cultural leadership up to that time had been the Inca nation. Renamed Lima, (a variation on the word "Rimac"), it is today the capital of the Republic of Peru, and a great metropolis with nearly 8 million residents.

Caracas' best attraction may be its people. They are a diverse, young, and lively population that colors the streets of the capital with laughter, music, and unrestrained enthusiasm. The sophisticated tastes of the 4 million inhabitants demand the endless parades of boutiques and fine restaurants that crowd upscale commercial areas. Caracas features an enormous cultural center called Bellas Artes, museums and concert halls. This capital city is hip, fast paced, and altogether cosmopolitan. At the same time, the people exhibit a special warmth and hospitality.

Puerto la Cruz is a dynamic and expanding resort city which features a 10 block long waterfront boulevard lined with hotels, nightspots, and restaurants. It is the gateway to the Isla de Margarita and the beautiful Mochima National Park.
