Travelers looking for a smaller city that has lots of unique and interesting attractions should not miss Baltimore. This city has it all: great local cuisine, a beautiful waterfront, and lots of great sites for the whole family to visit. From crab cakes to the Edgar Allen Poe House to the new Camden Yards and Fort McHenry of "Star Spangled Banner" fame, Baltimore has both history and fun for all.

Richmond has a rich and varied history, and is one of the top destinations for visitors to Virginia. From colonial times to the Civil War, Richmond was at the center of events in America. Colonial Williamsburg was one of America's first settlements, and its history and traditions remain with Richmond. So too remain the traditions of the genteel South. Richmond was the capital of the confederacy, and it has retained many of the historical aspects of old Southern culture. Richmond is not only the capital of Virginia, but its proximity to Jamestown and Yorktown make it a capital of sorts for the entire country.

Williamsburg is in southeastern Virginia on a peninsula between the James and York Rivers, which run into Chesapeake Bay. Settled in 1632, it was Virginia's capital from 1699 to 1779. After time the city declined and it was not until the 1920's that the people took a real interest in Williamsburg. In fact, it was only in 1926 that the idea of excavating and restoring the colonial site of Williamsburg took bloom. The once known Williamsburg went through a complete transformation from an industrial town into a what is now known as Colonial Williamsburg.

Located on the Atlantic Ocean and Chesapeake Bay, Virginia Beach borders North Carolina and ranks as the largest city in Virginia.

Atlantic City has become synonymous with its sparkling strand of hotel casinos, 12 in all - Bally's Park Place, Caesars, The Claridge, The Atlantic City Hilton, Harrah's, Resorts, The Sands, Showboat, Tropicana, and three bearing the Trump name, The Plaza, The Marina and The Taj Mahal. Millions of annual visitors flock to the city, on southeast New Jersey's Absecon Island, to woo Lady Luck in the casinos, where cards shuffle and chips snap 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. But the casinos have more to offer than the chance to make a quick million, and the city has more to offer than just the casinos.

The factory town of Hershey, Pennsylvania has become a major tourist destination, especially for families with children. Standing on the corner of Chocolate and Cocoa Avenue, with the wonderful aroma of Hershey's chocolate filling the air, visitors find it easy to understand why Hershey is known as "the sweetest place on earth."

America's first capital city, Philadelphia is rich in American history and culture. From Independence Hall, where the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776 proclaiming American independence, to Penn's Landing, named after the influential and charismatic governor William Penn, Philadelphia has much to teach visitors about the early years of America. At the same time, Philadelphia is a bustling city with modern attractions and entertainment.

The capital of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg rests on the Susquehanna River about 90 miles west of Philadelphia. Visitors come to Harrisburg to learn a little history, but mostly to relax in the beautiful countryside.

Charlotte, North Carolina, has a great deal to offer anyone interested in getting away from it all and finding a comfortable and interesting place to stay. Located in beautiful countryside, Charlotte is a congenial southern town, where hospitality is taken very seriously and guests always feel welcome. At the same time, it is a bustling cosmopolitan city, home to the NFL Panthers and the NBA Hornets.

Elegant and refined, Charleston mixes European charm with new world energy and excitement. Featuring beautiful buildings, winding streets and a touch of old world luxury, Charleston is the smaller, more comfortable New Orleans of the Upper South. The city was founded in 1670 and boomed as a center for rice and indigo trading. Since then, Charleston has occupied a notable place in American history and its beauty remains famous throughout the world. Conde Naste regularly rates it as one of the top ten city destinations in the world.

Ocracoke Keeps Calling Us Back

By Molly Harrison

Most of the major reunions and celebrations of my adult life have occurred in the same cherished place – Ocracoke Island, a slender, 16-mile-long strip of sand along the central coastline of North Carolina. It seems that every time my husband and I have something to celebrate or a need to bring people together, the island calls us back. Read more!
